I have wanted to buy a camera that can take macro pictures (miniatures, plants and flowers etc.) and at the same time that can take pictures for far away objects (like birds) for a long time. Every time when I'm out traveling I feel that my Lumix DMC-FX38 is not enough (even though it's a very good camera). The Lumix can't give me that "sharp in the front but blurry in the back" look.
Until I found that there are cameras called Superzoom prosumer type, which I can zoom in a lot and not pay lots of $ like the DSLRs. This is good news for me because I can pay less and I don't have to carry too much weight around. I've searched around the internet for quite a bit and among the competitors (Nikon Coolpix P500, Sony Cybershot DSC-HX100v, Fujifilm FinePix HS22, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150), the Canon PowerShot has won. At first I was struggling between Panasonic and Canon (which I think were the best for me to choose from) and couldn't decide. But finally I've decided on the Canon because of its great zoom, 35x (vs. Panasonic's 24x). If I like to take bird photos, I figured that I should get the one with more zoom. The bigger the better. The other thing that attracts me is the 24mm wide angle and 0cm macro. It can also take full HD movies. Although I've read a lot on the internet before buying, I'd still have to try it out to see whether or not the camera really suits my needs. Will see how it goes!
Use the Canon as Binoculars
I'm happy with it.
That's why, 佢係叫Superzoom, 而非Supermacro囉!
After using the camera for a few birding trips (and some uses at home), I feel that I'm happy with it. It's not really heavy, and can zoom in quite a lot. If I don't want to carry too much, I could use it as binoculars. The Canon is especially good when you're panning across the field because it naturally glides you smoothly across the field. Sometimes when you're moving it needs some time (not as good as the Lumix 150, some say) for focusing but I think with a great zoom you can't expect that much.
